Most social platforms are built around attention, performance, and content — not meaningful connection. Likes, comments, and feeds create noise, comparison, and shallow interaction. The challenge was to explore: - how connection could be expressed differently - how people could interact through intention instead of content - how to create a system that encourages positive, meaningful exchanges The opportunity was to rethink social interaction as something you give — not something you perform.
I designed Lumens as a signal-based social system centered around “energy” instead of content. Users don’t post — they send. Each interaction is intentional and carries meaning. The system is built around: - different energy types (integrity, courage, vitality, compassion, etc.) - a visual identity expressed through a dynamic orb - a lightweight interaction model focused on giving and receiving I focused on: - designing a new interaction language beyond likes and comments - creating a visual system that reflects personal “energy” over time - simplifying the experience to feel immediate, emotional, and human The goal was to explore how social platforms could shift from broadcasting → to meaningful exchange.
Lumens demonstrates an alternative model for social interaction. It shows: - how digital systems can encourage positive behavior instead of attention-seeking - how identity can be visualized through interaction patterns - how simple mechanics can create deeper emotional engagement The concept serves as an exploration of what social platforms could become if they were designed around connection, not performance.
